DescriptionThe German Shepherd is a noble dog, both in looks and in nature. Once 'owned' by a German Shepherd, most people would not have any other breed. They are loyal, intelligent, adaptable, protective, usually easily assimilated into family life or adaptable and useful for work as a shepherd, guide dog, sniffer dog, guard or police dog or obedient companion. German Shepherd dogs are a medium-large to large dog where males stand 62cms to 66 cms tall at the top of the shoulder (wither) and females stand 55cm to 61cms. Colours and coat types are very varied. Colours range from variations of sable, black and gold, black, bi-colour as well as other colours which are not accepted in the breed standard, such as blue, brown and white. Coat types vary from standard short coat to long coat where again a long coat is not acceptable for the show ring. Being an intelligent breed, it is recommended that German Shepherd puppies are socialized when young and trained to be obedient to become reliable and easily assimilated within human society. The best way to do this is to join a Club such as ours and learn how to train your puppy or dog. Click here for membership application form.
